The Saint Andrew Society of Sarasota (SASS) was formed in 1979 to provide social and cultural activities relating to Scottish heritage and to give emphasis to Sarasota's settlement by Scots (in 1885).  Our 501 c 3, St. Andrew Scottish Society Scholarship Fund, Inc. (SASSF), since 1990, has given $137,000 in scholarships to 126 qualified college-bound high school seniors from 18 high schools in Manatee and Sarasota Counties and Lemon Bay in Charlotte County.
SASS sponsors and participates in area Scottish social and cultural events including:

Burn's Club lunch and poetry readings, held monthly (in season)
Annual Scottish Christmas Luncheon, held in December
Annual Robert Burn's Supper, held near the anniversary of the Scottish bards birth (25 January)
Scottish Highland Games
Annual Kirkin' o' the Tartans, held in conjunction with an area worship service
Annual Scholarship Luncheon, held March or April to recognize the scholarship winners

Through social and civic involvement, SASS enhances awareness of Sarasota's significant Scottish heritage, thereby attracting funding to our 501 c 3 St. Andrew Scottish Society Scholarship Fund.  Working with area guidance counselors, and students we have provided financial support to 126 qualified high school seniors since 1990.
